Laura Cunningham photograph collection [graphic]
Scope and Contents
This collection primarily includes family photographs from the Cunningham, Ross, and Newport families of Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio. Many of the loose photographs are professional portraits of family members at different stages in their lives. Some have been identified on the verso. Chiefly featured are Laura B. Cunningham, Ned Ross, Lucy Ross, and John B. Ross. Also included are class photos from Lebanon City Schools and National Normal University, circa 1890s. The photograph albums included in the collection continue to document day to day life for the Newport, Cunningham, and Ross families (the three families being related through marriage). Of particular interest is a family trip to Fort Ancient, an Ohio History Connection site, circa 1890s. Also included with these albums is a small book of signatures addressed to Mary Eva Ross. This collection also includes a very small amount of manuscript material that documents limited family genealogy and a small portion of Laura Cunningham's volunteer service in her community.

Biographical / Historical
Laura Belle Cunningham was born in 1882 in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio, to F.M Cunningham and Laura Belle Newport. Laura lived in Lebanon, Ohio, until her death in 1962. As an adult, she resided with her cousins, Mary Eva Ross, and Lucy Ross. Laura was involved in many community organizations, including the Athenian Literary Society and the Bachelor Girl Music Club. She also worked as a teacher in Lebanon's local schools. Also featured frequently in this collection are Lucy Ross and Ned Ross (Ned is suspected to be a nickname for Mary Eva Ross, however no substantial proof is available). Lucy Ross, the eldest child of John B. and Keziah Ross, was a longtime school teacher in Lebanon, Ohio. Ned Ross appears to have held many professional positions in Lebanon and Warren County. Many of the photographs in this collection are stamped with her name. It is believed Ned Ross was an amateur photographer who often practiced by photographing family members.
