This collection includes photographs and documents concerning the McBurney family of Warren County, Ohio. The photographs include cartes de visite, card photographs of places and groups in Warren County, prints of Andrew G. McBurney, and two photograph albums. Many of the photographs are unidentified. The documents in this collection primarily concern Andrew G. McBurney. Included are family Bible records, stock certificates, a will, funeral notifications, and newspaper clippings.

Biographical / Historical

Andrew G. McBurney (known often as A.G. McBurney) was born in 1817 in Hamilton County, Ohio. At the age of 13, McBurney moved to Warren County, Ohio. In 1843, McBurney was admitted to the bar. He began his law career as a partner in a firm with Thomas and Robert G. Corwin. McBurney went on to serve as a state senator and the lieutenant-governor of Ohio under Governor Jacob D. Cox. In his time as a Warren County lawyer, McBurney interacted with many other well-known names including Durbin Ward and Clement Vallandingham. Andrew G. McBurney was married to Hannah M. Tichenor in 1839. Tichenor was the granddaughter of Jonathan Tichenor, an early Lebanon, Ohio, settler. The couple had four children, many of whom are documented in this collection. These children included a daughter who passed away at 12 years old, Mrs. Lucy Coryell (Lebanon, Ohio), Mrs. Anna Chew (Xenia, Ohio), and William McBurney(Lebanon, Ohio). William had two children named William Jr. (Los Angeles, California) and Nancy McBurney (Lebanon, Ohio).
