Charles E. Hakes collection

Scope and Contents This collection contains 28 letters written by Charles E. Hakes while he was serving in the 38th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company F. The letters range in date from 5 October 1861 to 31 July 1864. Twenty-seven of the letters are written to his wife, Isabella (Bella) and one to John W. Ayers. In addition, envelopes and separate transcriptions of most letters are included as well as a table of daily food rations per man, and a poem entitled "Our Flag is There."
